Yes, it has been a while!

With so much going on, I have neglected this blog.  I sincerely apologize for that.  There are several exciting things coming up.  We will be really preparing for FCAT Writes over the next month.  The students will be having their regular writing class with me and also attending a writing enrichment class each day from 10:15 - 10:45.  Students were assigned a teacher based on writing samples they have completed.

We will also be preparing an activity for Pioneer Days which will be on Saturday, February 25.  I will be sending more information about this home soon.

Our next book talk project will be due on February 3.  In addition to the project students must complete an AR test by January 27.  Students were given a goal for points needed by the end of the semester, this is also coming up soon.  However, if they have been taking their assigned AR tests; they should not have issues with this.  The exact specifications for the book talk will go home next week.

Our new story is "A Very Important Day" - here is a link to the vocabulary for the story:

Literary Pumpkins

Hi Parents,
I neglected to discuss with the students the written assignment for their pumpkin project.  Therefore, it will be very minimal.  The students should have something explaining who their character is and their role in the book.  This written assignment can be as short as the student would like.  Remember that students should have the book to display with their pumpkin.

Thank you!

Week of October 24, 2011

Hi All!
This week will be a short one for students, as they are off on Friday.  Due to this only being a four day week, students will not have Comp. Book this week.  In addition, we have completed our first theme, Journeys, in Reading and have a Theme 1 project due on Thursday.  Students will not have spelling words this week, this means no spelling homework and not test!

We have had many donations for the Fall Party on October 31.  Please contact me if you can donate anything for the activities.  Parents are asked to send in a snack or candy for the homeroom students for that day, as well.  I am also asking for any parent volunteers who can go around to the different classrooms with their child's class and assist with projects.  Please let me know if you are available.  Finally, Literary pumpkins are due on that day, please make sure your child has one ready.  This project takes the place of their Book Talk project.

Homework this week will be to complete the Theme 1 project and work on their Literary Pumpkins.  They will have a test on their vocabulary words on Wednesday.

Week of October 10

Sorry for the delay in posting.  I moved and have been a little disorganized, I apologize.  The students have their Cereal Box project that is due Friday, however we have no school on Friday; therefore I will accept them on Thursday or Monday.  Please let me know if you have any questions about this.

Since we have no school on Friday, students will not have Composition Book this week.  They will have their regular spelling homework and their test will be on Thursday.  We will have a reading test on "By the Shores of Silver Lake" on Thursday as well.

Our next book report will be assigned on Monday of next week.  Please look for Theme 1 project, which will come home this week and is seperate from book reports.  The Theme projects are directly related to our Reading stories and students will have a choice of activities to complete.

Have a great week!

Week of September 19

The students did a great job on their book projects.  Mrs. Janosik's homeroom will get to present theirs on Monday, as they had to FAIR test today.  Unfortunately, this was out of my control; as I would not have scheduled it on project day.

Progress Book is up and running, so be sure and check your students grades.  Please email me if you have any questions.  Next week students will be taking the Foresight Test in both Math (Tuesday) and Reading (Thursday).  We have been doing a lot of testing, but this helps drive our instruction.  We teach your child the objectives they need.

Open House is next Tuesday, September 20 from 6 - 8 p.m.  We will do a presentation in my classroom at 6:30.  Feel free to visit other classrooms before and after that time.  There is a dinner that night, as well as Book Fair.  I look forward to seeing you then.

Next week's homework is:
Reading:  Comp Book "C"
Spelling:
Monday - three time each
Tuesday - 10 sentences
Wednesday - ABC order

We will have a Reading Test on Grandfather's Journey on Wednesday and our Spelling Test on Friday.

Have a great weekend!!
