One Week - FCAT Writes

ONE WEEK !  That is all we have left until FCAT Writes.  The students know what to do, just keep reminding them to do their best:)

Our spelling words this week are:  harbor, middle, weather, final, labor, model, chapter, special, sugar, bottle, medal, collar, proper, towel, beggar, battle, trouble, shower, uncle, doctor.

Homework for spelling:
Tuesday - three times each in best handwriting - cursive
Wednesday - sentences with at least 10 words
Thursday - Write a story using 15 words

We will test on Friday.

Reading this week and next will be on the story Cendrillon.  Their vocabulary words are:  elegant, godmother, orphan, peasant, proud.

Reading test will be next Friday - March 4.

Remember that students have a book report due next week and need to take a book adventure test by next week.  I look forward to seeing all my students at Pioneer Days Parade and the Writing Workshop.

Valentine - Charlie Brown Week

We are into a new week, on a sugar high!  Lot's of candy for all the kids yesterday.  We will be seeing the play tomorrow, during school.  Tonight is the book fair/read aloud, check the Cornerstone site for more information.

 Please make sure you check your email about our plans for Pioneer Days and Saturday writing workshop.  I am doing an early morning FCAT Writes review for those students that need it.  It starts promptly at 7:30 each morning.  I sent out invites, but if you are interested in your child attending, please discuss it with me.  THere are slots available, however I don't want students to come if they don't need the added support. 

Spelling words for this week are:  landfill, homeland, wasteland, landlord, landslide, landscape, downtown, downstairs, downpour, breakdown, backyard, backbone, backpack, flashback, piggyback, homemade, hometown, homesick, paperback, countdown.  Spelling homework for the week is:
Monday - 3 times each
Tuesday - Write sentences using 10 spelling words
Wednesday - Create a chart grouping the spelling words by word parts:  land - home - back - down
Thursday - Study for test
The test will be Friday.  Reading Vocabulary words are the same as last week.  The test on the words and the story will be Friday.

Welcome to a new week!  This week we will do several writing prompts to further prepare for FCAT Writes.  This test is coming on us quickly, so we will be focusing on it a great deal in the next few weeks.  Students will have official prompts on both Wednesday and Thursday, so please try to make sure your child is present on both days.

Spelling Words:  railroad, make-believe, airport, afternoon, seatbelt, meanwhile, everything, everywhere, whenever, breakfast, forever, all right, alright, ourselves, fireplace, homesick, understand, background, anything, ninety-nine.  Students will have homework assignments daily for the week.  It is fine if they wait to turn them in on Friday.
Monday - 3 times each in best handwriting
Tuesday - Write 10 sentences using at least 10 spelling words
Wednesday - Write a story using 15 spelling words
Thursday - Study for test

Reading vocabulary words are:  autumn, draft, etched, frost, mercury, thermometers, timid.
Our reading test will be next Thursday on vocabulary and the story "The Stranger".
Students will have a book report due on February 28, 2011.  This book report should follow the same format as the January report and can be on any chapter book they choose.  They should also take a test on a book by that data also.

First week of February!

Good Morning!

Just want to update you on the work for this week.  We did not have the Reading Test on Friday and will most likely take it on THursday of this week.  The spelling test will be on Friday, as usual.  Students' need to complete Comp Book 'o' and Spelling Tic Tac Toe by Friday.

Spelling words for this week are:  side, sighed, flower, flour, right, wright, paws, pause, real, reel, rough, ruff, days, daze, cent, sent, scent, sight, cite, site.  The vocabulary words remain the same as last week.  We will have a practice FCAT writes on Wednesday, so please make sure your child is here.
